1,149,551. Valve member; copy milling; drilling. C. E. J. NYBERG. 20 May, 1966 [21 May, 1965], No. 22628/66. Headings B3A, B3C and B3K. A valve closure member consists of a cylindrical skirt 3 with a base 6 to which a valve head 4 is fixed, the skirt being milled to form flow openings 7 located near the base 8. The member is used in conjunction with a sleeve 1 with a valve seat 5 and has a central shaped bore, Figs. 3-6 (not shown), formed by drilling. The bore is preferably drilled after the milling of the openings in the skirt 3. In one embodiment the openings are formed by a milling cutter 14 with an arcuate cutting edge 16. The tool is moved along the axis 19 to form an opening in the skirt and shape the convex base portion 8. Two or three openings may be made simultaneously by separate tools or alternatively the workpiece can be rotated to separate milling positions. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 11, a milling tool 27 is advanced along an axis perpendicular to the axis 18 and in its inner position swung about the point 26. In a further embodiment, two milling tools 37, 38, Fig. 16, are positioned stationary and the work swung about an axis 41.
|
