The weft 11 is inserted from the meander edge of the tape by an eyed needle and may weave each cover alternately and the body tape every pick so that the weft extends between both covers at the edge of the meander as shown in Fig. 1, or may be woven with two eyed needles each weaving its own cover and both weaving the body and not having weft extending between covers as shown in Figure 13, in which case cover warps may extend between both covers. or the tape may be woven with two forked needles and two wefts which are inserted simultaneously and alternately by each needle so that each weave alternately with both covers and produce a configuration similar to Figure 1. The meander monofil 26 is precrimped and is woven in a straight condition in the warpwise direction in conjunction with a flexible mandrel 28 around which the monofil is wrapped, the action of shedding the monofil, shedding the mandrel and beating-up causing the monofil to resume its pre-crimped shape. Figures 5 to 10a (not shown) illustrate the weaving cycle. Stuffer warps may extend through the monofil and the far selvedge is knitted.</p> |
