1507981 Polycarboxylate cements NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 25 March 1975 [3 April 1974] 14727/74 Heading C3P Polycarboxylate cements comprise (i) specified classes of naturally occurring silicates or blast furnace slag and (ii) a water-soluble poly-(carboxylic acid) or precursor convertible thereto by the action of water. The silicates are ortho- and pyrosilicates, cyclic or chain metasilicates and alumino-silicates in which Al : Si is greater than 2 : 3. In the examples, component (ii) is an aqueous solution of polyacrylic acid, polymethacrylic acid, styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer or ethylene-maleic anhydride copolymer. The components may be presented as a two-part pack, the powder and a solution of polymer being in separate containers or in a common capsule with means preventing premature reaction. The cement may be employed in dentistry, orthopaedic surgery, as grouting cements and in cementing in moist environments. |
