Pentapeptide encephalin analogues - for use as analgesics and antidepressants

Pentapeptides of formula (I) and their salts are new: H-Tyr-X-Gly-Phe-Met-Y (I), (where X is D-Ala, D-Leu, D-Ile, D-Val, D-Phe, D-Tyr, D-Trp, D-Ser, D-Thr, D-Met, D-Glu, D-Gln, D-Asp, D-Asn, D-Lys or D-Arg; Y is NH2 or OH). (I) are analogues of methionine encephalin (H-Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Met-OH) with analgesic and antidepressant activity- Cpd. (I); X = D-Ala, Y = OH) is stated to be a considerably more powerful analgesic than morphine.
