<p>The dressing is used clinically to form a barrier around a cutaneous opening in order to limit spread of discharge and infection. It comprises a paste made from a mixture of karaya gum, glycerine and distilled water, formed into a thick rolle (1) and used to completely encircle and seal around the opening. A wire reinforcement (3) is moulded into the roll of paste, along its length, attachment points (5) being provided at intervals for ribs (7). Each pair of ribs curves upwards and is connected to a common wire (9), loops (11) are provided for various service tubes (13, 15) used for draining or irrigation.</p> |
