An internal combustion engine (1) is supplied with fuel from a tank (6). A vaporising chamber (5) is placed next to the tank and communicates with it at low level through a float controlled valve. The liquid level in the vapourisation chamber is kept at about 50mm. There is a porous structure (9) in the vapourisation chamber. It has a horizontal piece above the liquid level and vertical ribs dipping into the liquid which rises into them by capillary attraction. A valve (11) admits air into the chamber where it picks up fuel vapour from the porous structure. The fuel air mixture passes out of the chamber (15) into the structure manifold (2) through an accelerator controlled throttle (3) in the form of a butterfly damper.
