The manufacturing process for a stretch fabric, with longitudinal stretch for swim wear and sporting apparel, useds a knitted material construction in two layers. A twisted or false-twisted texturised yarn is used to bond the two layers, in a crossed ribbed formation, so that the stitches from each of the two successive knitting systems are formed of twisted or texturised yarn twisted in the same direction. By twisting the stitches from successive knitting systems in one direction, and the next two stitches in the other direction, the fabric is given a good longitudinal stretch.
