<p>A wide band simulator is used for aerials required to cover at high power levels wavelengths in the metre and tens of metres range. The simulator is switchless and is based on line impedance transformation using a Smiths diagram or curve as a basis for design. The simulator consists basically of a three millimeter diameter silver plates twenty five metre line stretched above a ground plane such that its electrical length is approximately ten meters. This is connected into an R-C load network which includes a potentiometer (r1, r2) for a wattmeter take-off source. The capacitor (C) is 27pf and has a working voltage of 15Kv. The resistance consists of six air cooled 1. 5K ohm parallel resistors (R1-R6) dissipating a total of 280 Watts.</p> |
