The emergency braking system for motor vehicles consists of two supple bands (1) provided with rough surfaces which are connected at one end to the vehicle chassis (3), are band being positioned in front of each rear wheel (2). The bands are normally folded up and lodged in a retractable receptacle (4) which pivots about an axle (5) held in flanges (6) welded to the chassis. The receptacles are held closed by spring loaded hooks (9) attached to the chassis and locating under brackets (13) on the receptacle. The hooks are released simultaneously, by a cable, from the inside of the vehicle such that the bands fall in front of and then under the rear wheels providing a high friction surface between the tyre and the ground.
|
