<p>The chuck consists of a spindle with a precision bore in one end into which the shaft of a grinding, boring or drilling tool can be mounted. The spindle has radial holes in which balls are mounted. A sleeve is further mounted over the spindle between the two sets of balls. The ends of the bore in this sleeve open up conically. A spring loaded collar pushes the first set of balls into the conical end of the sleeve so that the balls are forced against the tool shaft. Longitudinal forces transmitted by the balls to the sleeve push the other end of the sleeve over the second set of balls which are then also pressed against the toolshaft.</p> |
