The bumper replaces metal bumpers at the front and rear of vehicles and consists of a cellular central element made from a moulded synthetic material such as polyethylene or polyurethane. This is covered by an envelope which provides a decorative facing. This envelope is made from a supple synthetic material such as a copolymer of ethylene and propylene and is provided with a variety of openings for lights or air intakes and pairs of hooks with inturned ends which locate in grooves in the central element. The two elements are fixed to a U-shaped transverse bar attached to the longitudinal members (9) of the chassis. The fendering absorbs small impacts by elastic deformation.
