Fixed head flat grinding machine - in which workpiece table is moved to and fro by toothed belt for better speed control

The grinding machine consists of a frame (1) a fixed head (2) with grinding wheel (4) and a reciprocating table (3). The workpiece is mounted on the table. The reciprocating drive is mounted in the support frame of the machine. The table drive consists of a drive motor (6) with reduction drive wheel (7). A pinion (12) is mounted on the same shaft as the drive wheel. A toothed belt (14) runs over the pinion, deflecting wheels (17, 18) and a tightening wheel (19). The ends of the toothed belt are attached to the ends of the reciprocating table. Limit switches which are mounted on the table, reverse the drive direction of the motor. The belt drive makes accurate speed adjustment of the table possible especially at the lower speeds. It also ensures that the noise level is low.
