Rodenticides contg. anticoagulant - and calciferol in form of an irradiated yeast prod.

Rodenticidal compsns. contain a mixt. of (a) an anticoagulant rodenticide and (b) a prod. obtd. by irradiating an ergosterol-contg. yeast prod. with UV light so that at least part of the ergosterol is converted to calciferol. Component (a) is pref. warfarin, i.e. 3-(alpha-phenyl-beta-acetylethyl)-4-hydroxycoumarin. Component (b) is pref. obtained by irradiating the insoluble residues remaining after removal of soluble yeast extract, e.g. by homogenisation, autolysis or extraction. Such residues generally contain 1.5-3.5% ergosterol (dry basis). The UV light used pref. has a wavelength of 250-300 (esp. 275-300) nm (optimum 281 nm). Component (b) is an inexpensive source of calciferol, which synergises the action of anticoagulant rodenticides (cf. GB 1371135). The compsns. pref. contain 0.005-0.5 wt. % each of (a) and (b), the balance being the rest of the irridated yeast product and opt. other carriers and fillers.
