A package for food such as cheese consists of a container, made of PVC-polyethylene foil, and a lid, made of a cellophane-polyethylene combination with a coating of polyvinylidene chloride. Partitions and the side walls have top flanges to which lids are sealed so that separate airtight compartments are produced. The airtight enclosures prevent over-ripening of cheese. Unbroken compartments resin sealed. Transport and storage require no extra cardboard boxes.
