<p>Rotary filter consists of a series of cells inside cylindrical shells. They are mounted around a central shaft to form a circle and rotate around this shaft and also about their own axes. Plastic wipers are provided to wipe the walls of the cylindrical shells. Cake is removed by rotating each element to expel cake held by it. Each element consists of a series of discs of a porous plastic material. They are of conical form and a joined together to form a single unit. The cake then forms in the space between adjoining discs. Inside the discs are ribbed plastic plates. These serve to support the conical faces and permit the filtrate to flow away. The arrangement is used for pressure filtration, e.g. of slurries. Filtration is at high pressure and temp. and filter surface is increased 400%.</p> |
