The cathodic activity of e.g. oxygen or air diffusion electrodes is increased by limiting the gas supply, whereby the potential of the cathode is made more negative (at least by a factor of two) than that arising under normal operation conditions. The electrode is made from an electroconductive framework (e.g. Ni network), electroconductive particles (C or B4C), a resinous binder (e.g. PTFE) and a metal-containing catalyst. The production is simplified as the activation with hydrogen (and, in some cases, thermal treatment) is unnecessary. The wetting time is reduced. |
