In order to ease the transportability of skis, the front end and the rear end of it is detachable at a point near the binding. To ensure that the joint is strong and also rigid enough, the two ski ends can be connected by a tubular sleeve of rectangular cross section. The connecting part can be an integral component of the ski binding, thus producing an assembly that consists of interchangeable parts. This type of skis are particularly useful where skiing and mountaineering are being mixed.
