Detachable toe clamp for safety ski binding - uses vertical spring loaded plunger to regulate release force

A safety ski binding includes a toe clamp assembly which is detachable from its location on the ski. The toe clamp has two hinged arms (4) which overlap the ski boot sole near the toe. The toe clamp housing (13) is connected to the ski by a fixed pivot which is below the level of the ski boot sole. When the ski boot produces an excessive forward force on the toe clamp, a spring loaded vertical plunger (10) is displaced from its fixed location seat (9). The complete toe clamp assembly is now able to slide forwards and detach itself from the ski. Thus any obstruction that could prevent the release of the ski boot is removed.
