1507132 Tread reinforcements in pneumatic tyres CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 27 April 1976 [28 April 1975 14 July 1975] 17004/76 Heading B7C A pneumatic tyre, i.e. an open or closed torus tyre, comprises a circumferentially inextensible belt 22 and at least two plies 18, 20 positioned between the carcass and the tyre tread, each ply 18, 20 comprising a plurality of parallel elements 24, e.g. cords or chopped strands, each making an angle of #, e.g. 10 to 25 degrees, with the mid-circumferential plane of the tyre. During manufacture the belt, plies and tread are applied to the carcass when the latter is in its final configuration, and curing of the assembled tyre is effected while maintaining the carcass in its final configuration. This method results in no pantographing of the ply elements. The elements of one ply cross those of the or each adjacent ply, and, with two plies, the belt may be positioned radially inwardly, between or outwardly of the plies. Each ply may comprise side-by-side ply strips 28, 30 (Fig. 10). The illustrated carcass includes a helically wound filament 16. |
