1507231 Regulating IC engine fuel supply BORG-WARNER CORP 28 Jan 1976 [28 March 1975] 03382/76 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A valve 10 in the fuel feed to an internal combustion engine 70 has a seat 23 via which fuel flow is established by movement of a diaphragm 51 in response to subambient pressure in a control chamber 32 from which a restricted vent 36 communicates with ambient pressure there being a checkvalve 42 to permit flow only from the control chamber through a control port 9. As shown a fuel line from tank 60 via filter 61, passes through valve 10 to a pump 72 and carburetter 71 of the two stroke engine 70. Subambient pressure pulses in the induction passage 81 are transmitted to valve 10 via ports 83, 96 through tube 84, opening checkvalve 42 and acting on the diaphragm 51 to displace it from seat 23. Superambient pressure pulses are inhibited by the check-valve 42 so that the diaphragm remains unseated while the engine is running but when the engine is stopped pressure across the diaphragm is equalized by restricted leakage through a porous plug (37), Fig. 3 (not shown) which may be selected for a flow-rate to suit the engine size.
