PURPOSE: To obtain a lightweight, non-flammable soundproofing and thermal insulating material excellent in thermal insulating and/or sound absorbing properties by specifying the shape, diameter, reversible deflection ratio, aspect ratio and limited oxygen index of fluffy graphitic carbonaceous fibers. CONSTITUTION: Nonlinear, non-flammable, elastic and elongatable graphitic carbonaceous fibers having 7-20 μm diameter, >=1.2:1 reversible deflection ratio, >=10:1 aspect ratio and >40 value of limited oxygen index are formed into a batting. The carbonaceous fibers may have a sinusoidal or a coil-like configuration or a more complicated spiral shape. |
