1506895 Clamps ABBOTT LABORATORIES 28 Oct 1975 [13 Nov 1974] 44458/75 Heading E2B [Also in Division F2] A clamp 10 for regulating flow through a flexible tube 15 comprises a U shaped body having a base and walls 20, 21 provided with vertical slots 25, 26, for supporting a platen 33 and slots 23, 24, sloping towards the base, along which a roller 28 can travel. The platen helps to distribute the force of the roller over a wide area to prevent permanent crimping of the tube. The base may have the same thickness along its length or may be formed as an inclined plane, Fig. 8, (not shown). The base may be provided with a tube guide groove of U- or V-shaped cross-section, the width of the groove continuously increasing towards the operative end of the clamp allowing the tube to be completely closed to prevent flow. The clamp is made from plastics such as polypropylene, nylon or methyl methacrylate for the body and nylon, high density polyethylene or a polycarbonate for the roller and platen. |
