1506905 Alpha-numeric displays and circuitry therefor NIPPON ELECTRIC CO Ltd 5 March 1975 [5 March 1974] 9171/75 Heading G5C [Also in Division H1] A gas discharge display panel has an array of display discharge cells 42 defined by electrodes connected in groups by lines 43, 44, the groups of electrodes connected by lines 43 being connected to control discharge cells 41 which are connected in parallel with the groups of display cells when transistors 48 and 49 are on. A power supply 47 causes a discharge in control cells 41 in preference to display cells 42 which can only be ignited when the associated control cell is extinguished by turning off the relevant transistor 49. Power supply 38 and diodes 40 protect the transistors from induced high voltages when they are off; this can alternatively be done using a Zener diode, Fig. 7 (not shown). Fig. 8 (not shown) illustrates an arrangement in which the control cells are turned on and off to provide scanning over an x-y display. |
