1507430 Mixing apparatus R L MENDENHALL 21 July 1976 [11 Aug 1975] 30343/76 Headrig B1C Asphalt / aggregate composition reclaimed from a road surface is crushed and separated into courser and finer particles which are respectively fed to hotter and cooler zones of a continuous rotary drum mixer. An apparatus comprises an inclined rotatable drum 10 having lifting bars 18, and a burner 12 in a stationary end cover 22 forming a combustion chamber. There may be a baffle (not depicted) between the burner and the drum interior. Coarse, intermediate and fine particles are as shown fed at positions successively further downstream from the burner, the particles falling into shoots 20, 24 which fill encircling troughs 26. 36, 46 through which pass scoops 28 cooperating with charging puts 30, 31 in the drum wall. Additional liquid asphalt may be sprayed on the particles through apertures 15 in pipe 14. The discharge end of the drum has a stationary cover 45 with discharge put 42 and exhaust fan 48. In a modification (see Figs. 2 and 3 not shown) the burner nozzle (57) is directed transversely of the combustion chamber (54) and the gases pass over a thermal barrier plate (58) and through apertures (55) in a diffuser plate (60) forming an end wall of the drum.
