<p>1405305 Polyolefin derivatives BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 13 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 55087/72 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] Compounds of formula RR<SP>11</SP>NR<SP>1</SP>CH 2 OH where R is a hydrocarbyl group containing at least 20 carbon atoms and derived from a polyolefin, R<SP>11</SP> is H or C 1-4 alkyl and R<SP>1</SP> is an aminosubstituted hydrocarbylene group, may be prepared by an alkanolamine HR<SP>11</SP>NR<SP>1</SP>CH 2 OH with RX, where X is chloride or bromide. R may be derived by the polymerization of ethylene, propylene, a butene or 4-methylpentene-1, preferably isobutylene. The reaction may be effected in an inert solvent, e.g. xylene, in the presence of an acid acceptor, e.g. sodium carbonate. The compounds are useful as detergent additives for gasoline fuels. Examples describe the reaction of chlorinated polyisobutylene with N-(2-aminoethyl)ethanolamine.</p> |
