Thread-like structures conveyed by means of a flowing heated gas are guided through the first treatment space of constant cross-section of an elongate tubular treatment chamber subdivided into two successive treatment spaces and are thereby heated. After they enter the second treatment space advantageously widening abruptly in respect of its cross-section and provided with longitudinal slits for the radial suction of heated gas used as a conveying and heating medium, the thread-like structures are swirled before they strike the plug of compressed, already crimped thread-like structures. The heated gas, which has fulfilled its purpose as a conveying and heating medium, is sucked off completely, preferably in the upper part of the second treatment space, through the longitudinal slits in the radial direction, in such a way that no appreciable gas flow in the conveying direction now takes place. The thread-like structures travel through the rest of the second treatment space in crimped form as a plug. When this process is adopted, yarns having a very good and uniform crimping value can be obtained even at texturing speeds of more than 2000 m/min.
|
