Mixtures of acid orthophosphoric esters are obtained when a phosphorus(V) oxide is reacted with a mixture of a monohydric alcohol and an alkanepolyol having 2 to 12 carbon atoms and 2 to 6 hydroxyl groups in a molar ratio of phosphorus(V) oxide to monohydric alcohol to alkanepolyol of 1:2:<4>/n where n is the number of hydroxyl groups in the alkanepolyol molecule, by mixing or kneading the reaction components at a temperature of between 0 DEG C and 120 DEG C in the presence of an inert gas with exclusion of moisture in the course of 1-6 hours. The mixtures of acid orthophosphoric esters of short-chain mixtures of monohydric alcohol and alkanepolyol are notable for a minimal corrosive effect on metals and they are therefore preferably used as constituents of acidic cleaning compositions. Products with long-chain radicals, if necessary after neutralisation with inorganic or organic bases, are suitable for use as emulsifiers, wetting agents, glidants antistats and foam regulators in detergents and cleaners. Halogen-containing products are useful intermediates for preparing flameproofing agents. |
