<p>The emergency release is fitted to a vehicle safety belt and automatically operates when a shock is experienced. It comprises a tube enclosing a belt ring each end. These rings are joined by cords which retain the assembly during normal use. They also hold closed the jaws of a spring loaded clamp around one ring. The other end of the clamp is connected to the remaining ring by a coil spring and a damper, these providing an element of delay. When the cords break, the jaws open to release the ring from the tube on cessation of pull.</p> |
