<p>The transmission mechanism converts rotary into reciprocating movement or vice versa, having a shaft rotating in a stationary housing and with an annular bearing surface at one end whose axis is inclined to that of the shaft. Components on the shaft end hold a bearing against the surface, the bearing being enclosed by a yoke ring with diametrically opposite bearing trunnions, by which it rocks in the housing on an axis perpendicular to that of the shaft. The bearing fits in the ring by a further pair of trunnions at right angles to the first pair. A second shaft extends from the yoke ring coaxially with its trunnions, its free end acting as the power output or input. The bearing is automatically held against the annular V-section concave bearing inner surface, which is integral with the first shaft and formed by two conical portions on the same axis.</p> |
