The building element esp. for garden and play purposes comprises a number of panels connected to form at least two steps. Thus there are at least four panels connected end to end in zig-zag relationship, any adjacent panels being at right angles to one another. Pref. the steps are of equal height and depth. The edge surfaces of the steps may have a tongue and groove arrangement for joining adjacent ones of the building elements. The elements may be used to construct actual steps or to construct surrounds for sand-contg. play areas.
