Electrically charged contaminants are separated from an electrically conductive liquid by passing the liquid through an electrically charged cell connected to a DC power source so that alternate surfaces are positively charged and the other surfaces are negatively charged. The charged contaminants electrophoretically migrate towards the surfaces and agglomerate at the same time as minute gaseous bubbles are generated at the cell surfaces. The bubbles are floated through the agglomerated contaminants, part of the agglomerated contaminants being entrained in the bubbles.
|
