The double cover consists of two pieces of relatively stiff, transparent material with space between, and the base is of a heat insulating material. The material for the double cover is pref. PVC, and that for the base, foamed polystyrene or foamed polyurethane. The two covers may be flanged, and sealed to a flat base or the base may have a stepped edge, with the (unflanged) covers sealed to the risers of the steps.
