The electric guitar has a metal body comprising an upper plate (10) defining the body (14) and an integral neck section (14) and a lower plate (11) also having integral body and neck sections (13, 14). The two plates (10, 11) are pref. both of steel, each with a thickness of between 1 and 2 millimetres. Pref. both metal plates (10, 11) have a U-shaped cross section with the open U sides facing one another. The peg board (12) at the end of the neck section (13) is pref. trapezoidal.
