<p>Water-insol. compsn. comprises an organic cpd., (I) having biological or chemical activity bound to a metal substrate (II). The (II) has its surface coated with a polymer (III) formed by condsn. of an aminobenzoic acid with an aldehyde, to which the (I) is bound. (I) include water repellents, enzymes, antibiotics, antibodies, biopolymers such as proteins, polysaccharides and peptides. The compsns. can be repeatedly used. The (I) is more heat stable and resistant to inactivation. The high density compsn. is easily removed from a liq. medium; When (II) is magnetic, precise control of the use of the compsn. is effected by use of magnetic fields, the compsns. may be used in purificn. extn., sepn. etc., of (I), or mixts of (I) esp. when (I) are enzymes and antisera. When antisera are bound to metal bars, the prods., may be used in simplified radio immunoassays. The compsns. may be used in bio-engineering, esp. when (II) is Ni or Al, so that the prods. can easily be machined, formed into wires, sheets etc.</p> |
