1506493 Transalkylating toluene and C 10 -C 12 polymethylbenzenes INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 19 March 1975 [20 March 1974) 11483/75 Heading C5E Xylene is prepared by transalkylating toluene with a C 10 -C 12 polymethylbenzene in the presence of a catalyst carrier which has been impregnated with (i) at least one Group VIII noble metal or compound thereof and with (ii) AlX y R 3-y in which y is 1 to 2, X is halogen and R is monovalent hydrocarbyl. The transalkylation may be carried out in the gas or liquid phase at 50-350‹ C., optionally in the presence of H 2 . The feed may contain 0À005-2 wt. per cent sulphur, and a halide promoter may be present in amount 10-10,000 p.p.m. by wt. of the charge. Examples describe the transalkylation of toluene with tetramethylbenzene. |
