1506072 Cooking food CHEMETRON CORP 5 May 1976 [5 May 1975] 18437/76 Heading A2E [Also in Divisions A4 G3 and H5] Food is prepared for reheating in a microwave oven by selectively shielding the food items e.g. by wrapping in perforated metal foil whose apertures 194 &c. control the amount of radiation absorbed or by shaping the food items to change their surface area to volume ratio. Cooking time is automatically controlled by integrating a signal proportional to the microwave energv level in the heating cavity and switching off when a predetermined level has been reached. Larger food items which absorb more radiation are thereby given a longer heating time than small items. Heating may take place in two or more periods separated by intervals during which the temperature equalises throughout the item. Heating cycles for soup, fried chicken, mixed vegetables, mashed and boiled potatoes, scrambled egg, sausage, salisbury steak, denver sandwich and coffee cake are given. |
