ATOMIZING METHOD AND APPARATUS

1467858 Atomizers AQUA-CHEM Inc 29 Nov 1974 [2 Jan 1974] 51771/74 Heading F4T A system for atomizing fuel for a burner comprises an emulsifier 16 with a water feed line 44, a fuel feed line 27 and an output line 59 which connects a high pressure pump 18 and a heater 20 to an atomizing nozzle 11 in a furnace 12. The atomizing process involves heating the emulsion to a temperature between the flash point temperature of the two constituents for the pressure in the furnace 12 but maintaining the emulsion under pressure in the system so that no flashing can occur until the emulsion is ejected into the furnace. The process is also said to work for certain mixtures of oils without water. The line 27 includes a strainer 25, a pump 24 and two parallel filter units 32, 33 arranged with two three-way valves 35, 36 so that they can be used alternatively. The feed water and fuel is correlated by a proportioning pump 40 in the line 44 controlled by a flow meter 47 in the line 27. In a second embodiment the system is adapted to feed a plurality of nozzles in a gas turbine.
