1475712 Gun mountings DANSK INDUSTRI SYNDIKAT A/S 14 May 1974 [15 May 1973] 21352/74 Heading F3C [Also in Division F2] A swivel arm system for supporting a gun mounting fork has two arm arrangements one above the other, the first arm arrangement 1 having four members, two long members 11, 19 of unequal length connected to two short members 14, 15 of unequal length, members 11, 15 being equal in total length to members 19, 14; adjacent ends of members 11, 19 are connected by the shortest member 14 at fused points 3, 13, the second arm arrangement 2 being pivoted at a point 12 to a connection between members 11 and 15, the member 15 being fixed to the second arrangement in respect of movement in its plane of pivoting, the other end 10 of the second arrangement being suitable for carrying the weapon fork. Fig. 5 shows the first arm arrangement 1 pivoted on a fixed part of a vehicle turret such that the pivots 3, 13 lie on a line passing through a gunners position, the free end 10 having a locus approximating a circle around the gunner. When moved, the end 10 does not follow a true circle whose centre corresponds with the gunner at a latch centre point C when transversed a large angle from an initial line of symmetry U to overcome this, the member 11 is articulated at 16, Fig. 6, so that after a small movement from the initial line of symmetry U, a part 17 of the member 11 is held stationary by said stop 18 and the remainder of the member rotates about the point 16, enabling the end 10 substantially to traverse the circle of centre C. A further stop 18<SP>1</SP> is provided for movement in the other direction from the line of symmetry U. The arm arrangement 2 may be in the form of a parallelogram link, Fig. 1, not shown, enabling vertical gun movement; here a spring is used to control such movement, and a brake may be used to retain the weapon in a given vertical position. The weapon fork may be constructed as a spring loaded tipping fork or a recoil absorbing spring or buffer mechanism. The pivots 3, 13 may be mounted on a common bearing block or casing carried by a fixed mounting which may also carry the stops 18, 18<SP>1</SP>. This block or casing may be in two parts comprising a lower portion non-rotatable in a fixed bearing and an upper part rotatable on the lower part so that the circle centre C can be moved to effectively coincide with more than one hatch for different swivelling operations. |
