<p>An insulation system for vessels contg. fluids at very low temp. such as liquefied gases, uses synthetic foam plates, the edges of which have expansion joints of synthetic material, and allows some play between the surface of the vessel and the insulation. The insulation is produced by a) applying a slide surface coating to the wall of the vessel, b) fitting a gril arrangement to the vessel consisting of bars spaced out on or round the walls of the vessel, c) filling in the spaced between the bars with injected polyurethane foam, d) applying a coating on to the surface of the insulation. The foam may be reinforced and may be covered over by a metal cladding, whilst alternatively, the foam may be generated in situ. The bars of the grill are glued to the surface and arranged so that their crossing are alternately vertical and horizontal, continuous or interrupted. Where the bars cross they are not glued but are filled in with foam. Expensive assembly methods are eliminated, and temp. movements between the vessel and the insulation are evened out.</p> |
