<p>The candle has a body of a slow-burning material. Part of the surface of the body is coated with a layer of a pyrotechnic substance and the slow-burning material is made up of paraffin wax mixed with a filler of a cellulosic nature, pref. in the ratio of wt. 60% paraffin to wt. 40% filler. The layer of pyrotechnic substance is intended as an ignition fuse and should be prepd. to ignite instantly when touched off. The body is pref. of cylindrical with one end face coated with a layer of pyrotechnic substance. The filler is pref. shredded or chopped waste paper or sawdust, partic. conifer sawdust. Used for protecting crops from frost damage, partic. vines, fruit trees and early season vegetables. Instant ignition compared with 15 to 20 secs. for conventional, anti-frost candles is provided. This is great labour saving advantage with candles distributed at up to 500 per hectare. Cheaper mfr. is possible by using a filler or waste material.</p> |
