1529759 Data terminal STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 30 Sept 1976 40600/76 Heading H4P A data terminal includes a visual display and keyboard 1, and, for each of a plurality of operational parameters such as data transmission speed, a means, operative when the terminal is switched on, to realize a preset value of the parameter, the terminal being arranged so that the current value of each parameter can be displayed and altered under keyboard control. A number of preset switches 6a-n, each for example including four contacts to provide one of 16 possible coded values for a respective parameter a-n, are read, when the terminal is switched on, to store corresponding values in a store 3 and in control units 4a-n. In the case of transmission speed the coded value controls the division ratio of a frequency divider to generate control pulses at the appropriate frequency. The keyboard is used to access store 3 and display all the possible values of any selected one of the parameters and an indication of the current value of that parameter and to modify that value as required. Any modified value is restored in store 3 and in the appropriate control unit 4 to reset the value of the parameter to the new value. |
