Compensating clamping mechanism for isostatic machine vice - has pressure screw balancing forces on fixed jaw with adjustable liners of reference system mounted on both jaws

The compensating clamping mechanism maintains the fixed jaw (2) of an isostatic machine vice in stabilised equilibrium. It has a pressure screw (7) which acts on the fixed jaw (2) to provide a counter-balancing reaction to the movable jaw (5) forces. The clamping mechanism may be used in association with an isostatic measuring reference system, for use on prismatic workpieces in machine-vices. The reference system may incorporate an adjustable liner (4) on the fixed jaw (5) in conjunction with a linear two point bearing and an adjustable spherical stop (11). The stop constitutes a datum point for horizontal control.
