Selective strainer for dishwasher - has floating inner sleeve to allow fine particles to flow to pump

The strainer for a dishwashing machine has a wall (25) provided with fine perforations (29) which retain large particles inside the inner sleeve (32). The fine particles remain in the circulating water and are liable to be deposited on the lower surface of the machine when the water is pumped out after use. To avoid this drawback the inner sleeve (32) is provided with a float in the form of a hollow ring (34). The float (34) holds the sleeve (32) in its upper position when the machine is in use and shuts off the holes (31). As the water level falls the sleeve (32) drops to its lower position so that the holes (31) coincide with the holes (37) allowing the water and the fine particles suspended in it to flow to the outlet (26) and on to the discharge pump.
