The compound rectangular section staple (16) is for use with rim locks or latches of apartment doors (15). The staple comprises an assymetric (19) U-section housing a symmetrical U-section (18). The web (22) of the latter is screwed at regular intervals to the frame (29) or on the edge of an adjacent door, and the longer flange (27) of the former is the striker plate. The striker plate extends to cover the edge of the frame or leaf, and openings for latches or bolts may be cut in the double wall (20, 27). The two U sections (18, 19) may be joined by screws (S) at intervals through the striker plate (27) and run for the entire height or width of the door (15).
