<p>The flexible and detachable pipe coupling is for a medium at high pressure, where the two pipes do not need to be axially aligned. A seat component (2) fits on one of the pipes to form an extension of it and has at its free end an internal concave sealing face (7), bearing against a mating convex face (8) on the other half. An internally-screwed union nut fits over the component, and has an internal concave face (5) complementary to that on the component, screwing onto the other half of the coupling. A flexible flange (12) on the coupling forms a seal against the concave face of the component when the nut is tightened up, being distorted in the process and thus pre-stressed, allowing angular deviation between the two pipes.</p> |
