The building system is based on prefabrication and a modular grid pattern, and is esp. suitable for countries with hot, dry climates. It involves the use of four press-formed basic structural elements (1, 10), all alike and made of organic fibrous materials and a bonding medium, on a plastic base. These are cut, if required, as appropriate to various areas of application as wall, ceiling or door, or as connectors between one wall and another, and are joined to each other without screws. In conjunction with these there is a metal load bearing structure (66), connected to the structural elements, or to a prefabricated component made from them. A basic element may be a triple-skinned wall element, with preformed sealing units. This is economical, highly versatile and variable, and easily assembled in developing countries.
