The dyeing and/or printing of hydrophilic or hydrophobic materials comprises contacting (a) a flat support carrying a dyestuff (or dyestuff precursor) which vapourises (or sublimes) at 240 degrees C, contains >=1 nucleophilic -NH2 or -NH gp. and is free from OH or ether gps. on the benzene ring carrying the nucleophilic gp., with (b) the material to be dyed or printed contg. a dyestuff acceptor and an organic prod. which fixes the dyestuff on the material in the absence of a polymerisation condensing or cross-linking catalyst, and heating to >200 degrees C. Cellulose, wool, silk and other hydrophilic materials are dyed shades fast to washing and resublimation. e.g. paper supports may be printed orange, red, blue, violet-red.
|
