<p>Material for the prodn. of shaped hydrophilic bodies comprises (a) a major amt. of a hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate; (b) 0.01-0.25%, (based on the mixt.) of a water-insol. (meth)acrylic acid diester contg. no free hydrophilic gps.; and (c) 0.5-10% (based on the mixt.) of a low mol. wt. acid contg. one unsatd. double bond and selected from acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, vinylacetic acid, crotonic acid and isocrotonic acid. Used for the prodn. of soft hydrophilic contact lenses. The lenses can be left in the eyes as the exchange between the lachrymal fluid and the cornea through the lens is not inhibited. The lenses have good physical props., e.g. extensibility, flexibility, strength, etc.</p> |
