The water barrage consists of a rectangular steel plate (8) hinged longitudinally at the base (6) of a recessed foundation plinth (4) by a bracket (7). The free moving end of the plate is folded back (11) and tied by a cable (16) to the plinth, to limit the travel of the plate. A convoluted rubber membrane (12) is sealed between the free end of the plate and the lip (32) of the plinth. The membrane is divided into two portions which have separate valves (27, 28) located in the plinth. The plate is raised by inflation of the chambers with the object of restraining flood waters from reaching the upper parts of the river or estuary. |
