<p>1481027 Injection-blow-moulding UNILEVER Ltd 30 July 1974 [1 Aug 1973 (2)] 33553/74 Heading B5A An injection-blow-moulding apparatus comprises an injection mould 17 and a mandrel 23 insertable within the mould 17 to define an annular injection area to form a hollow preform, the injection mould being supported on a longitudinally movable carrier plate 16 so as to be movable on to the mandrel, a frusto-conical surface 36 being formed on the mandrel and a cooperating surface 51 being formed on the mould, a sliding surface 60 between the mould and its mounting 38 which is secured to the plate 16 allowing movement of the surface 51 at right angles to the longitudinal axis, a releasable locking device 56 for locking the mould to the carrier, and a control mechanism 69 adapted to actuate the locking device dependant upon the relative longitudinal positions of the mandrel and mould. In operation, as the two conical surfaces approach one another, a switch 70, 73 releases a fluid pressure from behind a piston 54 via a passage 59 to allow the device 56 to permit movement between the surfaces 60, and the conical surfaces to align without damage, and then after further approach a switch 71, 73 allows pressure fluid to flow to the cylinder behind the piston 54 to lock the aligned surfaces 60. Initially there is a clearance (Y), Fig. 4, not shown, between a cone member 50 and an abutment ring 45, but this is closed by radial expansion of the member 50 to provide an effective seal to the preform cavity 41.
